Project Lead: Akram Mahani

Akram Mahani is an Associate Professor at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Regina. Her research focuses on healthy cities and communities through a health equity lens, with particular attention to marginalized populations. She examines how municipalities can advance health outcomes through urban design and built environment policies. Her federally and provincially funded projects explore the integration of health and equity in urban design, youth mental health–friendly neighbourhoods, and partnerships between municipalities and public health systems. Using community-engaged and co-design approaches, her work aims to inform healthier and more equitable and sustainable communities.
