Current Sub Committee's

The Reconciliation, Past, Present and Future
The Reconciliation Past, Present and Future Subcommittee was formed to address a responsibility to our communities to ensure that we are partaking in opportunities to Reconcile. “Reconciliation requires sustained public education and dialogue, including youth engagement, about the history and legacy of residential schools, Treaties and Aboriginal rights, as well as the historical and contemporary contributions of Aboriginal peoples to Canadian society.”(Senator Murray Sinclair). Our subcommittee has collaborated to assist the Metis Local 888 and the Metis Multicultural Youth Society to bring a community wide celebration of National Indigenous Day.  We are also working closely with our Elder to develop a “hands on” program to bring to the students in some of our schools that will enhance the current school curriculum with a local Indigenous perspective.

Community Engagement
The community engagement subcommittee sub committee meets to plan, organize and facilitate ways to engage business, parents, the public and other agencies about our work, our mandate and help to build strong collaborative partnership through positive and engaging marketing and effective community engagement strategies

Youth Mental Health
Healthy Communities Coalition Mental Health Youth Subcommittee
The committee has been working towards several goals that were identified in consultation with
community partners in the spring of 2018. These goals include promoting a shared language used to
describe mental health and addictions between service providers, agencies, community groups and the
public. The group is also exploring the development of a tool that will support agencies and
professionals in accessing appropriate local help for addiction and mental health concerns. The
committee has been focusing on the needs of youth in Drayton Valley and is working towards fostering
collaboration between agencies that service youth, and access funding that will support the
development of safe places for youth to gather where a continuum of mental health and other youth
specific supports are accessible for those in need.

Injury Prevention

The HCC Injury Prevention subcommittee is committed to increasing safety in the community through prevention. Currently the subcommittee is focusing on Emergency Preparedness. Since 2017 the subcommittee has hosted a community awareness dinner which featured speakers from Fort McMurray and the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, provided school presentations to students in grade 4 and distributed community and media resources. Currently the subcommittee is continuing with school presentations and working with community partners by supporting table top Emergency Preparedness exercises that also include a psychosocial perspective.
